The Piskáčeks: contacts and practical help

January–May 1942

Jaroslav Piskáček used Sokol relationships to secure equipment, papers and shelters. His household also helped the wounded Kubiš after the attack.

Jaroslav Piskáček, a ČKD designer and Vysočany Sokol organizer, lived with Antonie and their son Miroslav in Na Břehu. Their household provided lodging and food; Sokol connections helped them find more trusted people.

Piskáček helped transport equipment hidden near Nehvizdy. He took the injured Gabčík to physician Stanislav Hrubý and worked with him on employment books and cover sick-leave documents. Such assistance made it possible for the parachutists to move around an occupied country.

After the attack on 27 May, Kubiš came to the Piskáčeks with an injured eye. Through Antonín Oktábec, Jaroslav summoned physician Břetislav Lyčka. Kubiš stayed through a night of house searches; the family also helped remove the bicycle left in Libeň.

Places

Piskáček’s contacts brought a doctor to the apartment. Lyčka’s assistance had begun before Kubiš was wounded.
