Lyčka’s home and surgery — resistance meetings in Karlín
Story period: first half of 1942 · pursuit in July
Location: Sokolovská 41/7, Karlín
Karlín physician Břetislav Lyčka assisted ANTHROPOID’s Sokol network. His Sokolovská Street home and surgery hosted discussions about helping the parachutists in early 1942, and he helped conceal their presence. After the attack, he treated Jan Kubiš at Jaroslav Piskáček’s Vysočany apartment. He died in hiding near Ouběnice in July.
A surgery as a meeting place
first half of 1942
Some operational discussions took place at Lyčka’s.
Lyčka worked as a doctor and joined the Sokol resistance network JINDRA. The medical account records that some ANTHROPOID discussions took place at his Karlín home and surgery from early 1942.
Helping the wounded Kubiš
27 May 1942
Lyčka went to his patient in Vysočany.
Kubiš injured his eye in the explosion. After stopping at the Novák home, he went to the Piskáčeks. Through Antonín Oktábec, Jaroslav Piskáček summoned Lyčka to his Vysočany apartment, where the doctor treated Kubiš.
The Karlín surgery was Lyčka’s workplace and a meeting place; it was not where he treated Kubiš on 27 May.
Flight and death in Ouběnice
July 1942
After the network was exposed, Lyčka left Prague.
When the Gestapo began hunting him, Lyčka hid with carpenter Ludvík Vaněk in Ouběnice. He took his own life on 21 July when the house was surrounded. Its exact number and verified geometry are not yet available here.
The medical account identifies Lyčka’s home and surgery at Sokolovská 41/7. The point at 50.0913932, 14.4390875 represents today’s address, not the place where Kubiš was treated after the attack.
