How investigators reached the refuge

16–18 June 1942

Čurda’s testimony led the Gestapo to helpers. Investigators obtained the church’s location only through the arrests and torture that followed.

Karel Čurda presented himself to the Gestapo at Petschek Palace on 16 June and identified parachutists and supporters he knew. He did not identify the church refuge himself. His testimony nevertheless opened a path to households and further violent interrogations.

During the Moravec arrests, Marie took her own life, while Alois and Vlastimil were detained. After brutal torture, Vlastimil disclosed the probable refuge in the Orthodox church. This was testimony extracted by violence, not voluntary collaboration.

Places

On 18 June, German forces assaulted the church. Seven men defended its separate spaces.
