Josef Bublík

BIOSCOP member · church defender

died 18 June 1942

Josef Bublík arrived in April 1942 with the BIOSCOP sabotage team. After the group was endangered, he and Jan Hrubý hid in Prague. He fought beside Jan Kubiš and Adolf Opálka in the Resslova Street church on 18 June and died that day. Sources differ on the circumstances of his death.

BIOSCOP

BIOSCOP contacted Jan Zelenka-Hajský, who arranged accommodation and a link to Adolf Opálka. When the Gestapo traced the team’s hidden equipment, Bublík and Hrubý remained in their Prague refuge.

The battle in the church

Bublík was one of three men defending the gallery. Atentát says he shot himself there after being wounded; the VHÚ exhibition says he died after being taken away. Both connect his death with the battle on 18 June.
